This is an obsolete version of the OctaMED music editor, now released into
free distribution. The latest commercial version of OctaMED is V4.0,
of which wholesale distribution is handled by RBF Software.

It goes without saying realy that the latest OctaMED V4 has had so many
alterations that if you intend purchasing this version you are advised
to also obtain the manual as well. (see price details further on).

OctaMED is a music editor, which is originally designed for making music
for programs (demos, games etc..), but it works well as a stand-alone music
program too. OctaMED V2.0 is the "big brother" of MED V3.20 music editor.

OctaMED V2.0 needs Kickstart 1.2 or later, is compatible with AmigaDOS 2.0,
runs on any Amiga, and multitasks correctly (even in 8-channel mode).

Here are the contents of the complete OctaMED distribution disk:

Demos (dir) A demo song (try it first)
     Docs (dir) Documents
     SynthSounds(dir) Some synthetic sounds
     Programmers (dir) Stuff for programmers
          PlayerLibraries (dir) shared player libraries
MODPlayer (dir) linked module player/loader stuff
Examples (dir) some examples in Assembler & C
  OctaMED The music editor
  OctaMEDPlayer The player program
  Read Me This file..

The icons were designed to look nice under V2.0 of Workbench. If you are
using WB 1.x (as most people still are), the icon colours look "inversed".

First you should make a backup copy of your original OctaMED disk, and save
the original in safe place. If you want to install OctaMED on a hard disk,
you have to remember to copy the file "OctaMED.gfx1" along with it. This
file contains some graphics data required by OctaMED. It must be in the
current directory when you run OctaMED. If WB is used, just make sure that
OctaMED and OctaMED.gfx1 are located in the same drawer. From CLI/Shell,
you have to 'CD' to the directory where the both files are before starting
OctaMED.

And now, very important text is coming. Don't close your eyes :^) !!!!!

OctaMED is copyright 1991 Teijo Kinnunen & Ray Burt-Frost (RBF Software)

OctaMED V2.0 is NOT public domain (its copyright is still retained).
However, this version (V2.0) may now be freely copied and distributed.

OctaMEDPlayer may be freely distributed (so you can easily distribute
 songs you've made using OctaMED).

The OctaMED player routines and player libraries may be freely used and
distributed with non-commercial (pd) programs, however,if you intend using
any of the routines/libraries within a Copyrighted program then you must
obtain permission from the joint copyright/world copyright distributor.
The demo song and the synthsounds are Public Domain.

OctaMED V2.0 is provided "as is". Every effort has been made to keep
OctaMED as bug free as possible, but if there are bugs that cause you lost
something, the author or RBF Software are not responsible for the damage.

Please remember to indicate the version number of OctaMED you are using!

The author is sorry for not being able to reply most of the incoming letters.
However, bug reports and suggestions are addressed anyway (they should be,
however, based on the latest commercial version, not on this FD version of
OctaMED V2.0 - your suggestion may already have been carried out in the latest
OctaMED Pro!).

Note: The author is doing his military service in June 1993 - March 1994, so
please don't write during that period.
